Brandywine Valley SPCA welcomes rescue flights from Texas

NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Brandywine Valley SPCA is doing their part to rescue shelter pets from the devastating flooding in Texas.

Friday, the first of two rescue flights touched down in New Castle carrying shelters pets from the flood devastated areas of Texas.

The flights are bringing in animals that were already in shelters ahead of the flooding.

The first flight which arrived Friday was carrying an estimated 20 dogs on board, all made possible by Bissell Pet Foundation.

Moving these animals outside of shelters in the Texas area will help those shelters with reuniting lost pets with their loved ones or any rebuilding they need to do of their own.

“The Brandywine Valley SPCA has a history of helping whenever disaster strikes, we’ve helped with Hurrice Idalia, we’ve helped with Hurricane Harvey, we’ve helped with the tornadoes and flooding and even an ice storm in Texas in the past, our partners in the animal rescue and animal welfare community know that they can reach out to us and ask us for help and we’ll be there,” said Sara Smith with Brandywine Valley SPCA.

The arrival of these rescue flights brings with it the opportunity to help out the Brandywine Valley SPCA, as many of the animals will be looking for new homes.

“We’re lucky to be able to spread some of these animals out to make room for them, but what we really need from the public is to come adopt, come welcome a new pet into your home,” said Smith. “It really does help make space so that we can move animals around and be able to continue to welcome animals like this in.”

If you may not be able to adopt, you can also choose to foster a pet, or make a monetary donation to the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

They are also taking donations of pet supplies as well.

Saturday’s flight will be bringing about 10 cats and 10 dogs.
