Brandywine Valley SPCA urges public to adopt during PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week

DELMARVA The Brandywine Valley SPCA is encouraging families to open their hearts and homes to homeless pets during PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, with special adoption events scheduled for July 26 and 27.

In partnership with PetSmart Charities, the SPCA will host adoption events at seven PetSmart stores across Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Washington, D.C., offering a wide range of adoptable cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies.

Like many shelters nationwide, Brandywine Valley SPCA says its kennels are currently over capacity. To help alleviate overcrowding, the organization will offer half-price adoption fees for adult dogs aged one year and older during the two-day event. In addition, adoption fees will be waived for a second cat or kitten when adopters choose a bonded feline friend.

“Adoption events in the community are a vital tool in helping homeless animals find loving homes,” said Adam Lamb, CEO of Brandywine Valley SPCA. “Thanks to the support of PetSmart Charities, we are able to participate in adoption events at seven different PetSmart stores in three states this weekend.”

Staff and volunteers will be on hand at each location to guide visitors in finding the right match. The SPCA says the benefits of pet adoption extend beyond saving lives—companion animals have been shown to reduce isolation, encourage physical activity, and teach children values such as responsibility and empathy.

Brandywine Valley SPCA encourages interested adopters to visit one of the participating PetSmart stores or browse available animals online at bvspca.org/adopt.

PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week runs through the weekend of July 26–27, 2025.
