Berlin holds off Fruitland in Majors District 8 Tournament
BERLIN, Md. – Berlin held on to beat Fruitland 10-8 in the Maryland Little League District 8 Majors Tournament on Tuesday.
Berlin started quickly on offense, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. The home team expanded their lead to 7-1 after the bottom of the 3rd, thanks in part to a solo home run from Benny Maldanado and a triple from James Runkles.
Fruitland would close the gap with four runs in the top of the 5th, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Dane Buckley. In the bottom of the inning Berlin answered right back, with James Runkles sending a solo shot over the fence to start a rally that would make the game 10-5.
Fruitland mounted a rally in the top of the 6th, but ultimately fell short in their comeback attempt.
Berlin will play Delmar as the road team on Thursday, July 3, at 6 p.m.
After recording their first loss in the double elimination tournament, Fruitland will play the winner of Snow Hill and West Salisbury on Thursday, July 3, at 6 p.m.
