Worcester County Recreation & Parks to celebrate 40th anniversary

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – July marks Parks and Recreation Month, and Worcester County is looking to celebrate in a big way for the 40th anniversary.

The National Recreation and Park Association is acknowledging departments that make a lasting impact in communities. The goal of these organizations is to promote community health and well-being.

Deputy Director Jacob Stephens said it’s an honor to be recognized.

“They honor July as Parks and Recreation Month across the country. We’ve got a few things planned. It’s also the 20th anniversary of the Worcester County Recreation Center, so later this month we’ll be doing a few things, and we should be releasing the details later this month,” he said.

This year’s theme is “Build Together and Play Together.” A special ceremony is scheduled during the Worcester County Commissioners meeting on July 1st.

“We’re being honored at the Commissioners meeting for National Recreation and Parks Month for our continued work across Worcester County — offering programs, maintaining parks and helping our residents stay active,” Stephens said.

Several Recreation and Parks events are planned in Worcester County this month and next, culminating with the Worcester County Fair.

Officials say they hope to build lifelong friendships, memories and family bonds.
