Wicomico Partnership hands out laptops

SALISBURY, Md. – People have been lining up since 7 A.M. Tuesday morning in Downtown Salisbury at the Wicomico Partnership For Families to receive a major helping hand in the form of new laptops.

The Wicomico Partnership gave away more than 500 Chromebooks to people receiving government assistance throughout the day.

For many of these people, getting these laptops is a chance to get the ball rolling for their careers.

“A lot of folks have been coming in and have been so excited because they say this gives them opportunities to look for jobs. Also to go back and start education, whether it’s for GED or for university. So this is a really great tool for people to access important things that would help bring value to their life,” says Wicomico Partnership Community Program Coordinator, Alyssa Gammel.

For people like Gregory Battle, who runs a recovery group home, being able to receive a laptop is a weight off his shoulders.

Battle tells us, “Man it’s truly a blessing, man. A lot of people couldn’t afford it. And, you know, this is a blessing for for the city of Salisbury that they’re doing this.”

Victoria Smullen says she is appreciative that the Wicomico Partnership is looking out for those trying to simply earn a little more money.

Smullen says, “You know, even getting the education is hard. And the worst thing about that is you ain’t guarantee a job nowadays, you know, because the economy is so messed up right now…”
