Weather Tidbits: Lightning Death Locations
We’ll be discussing various lightning death locations in this edition of Weather Tidbits. Through a data set collected from 2006 to 2023, a number of death reports were sited for different landmarks. From the data, some notable spots are displayed to be more dangerous than others. The spot with the most number of lightning deaths was being under a tree with 92 reported deaths. The 3 below were in the water, a house yard, and out in the open with 69, 48, and 43 deaths respectively. This shows that standing under a tall object or being out in the open is very dangerous when lightning is within the vicinity. The lowest death count was in a car with a total of 1 lightning related death. The second below was in a house with only 2 death reports. Those are some of the safest places to be when lightning is near.
