Weather Tidbits: 2024 Hurricane Season Timeline

This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing the tropical timeline of the 2024 season in the Atlantic basin. This timeline includes the peak intensity of each storm. The 2024 season saw a total of two category 5 hurricanes, two category 4 hurricanes, one category 3 hurricane, four category 2 hurricanes, three category 1 hurricanes, and six tropical storms. A total of 18 named storms. The first storm was Tropical Storm Alberto in June, impacting the Yucatán Peninsula. Four other named storms developed through August. Activity ramped up big time in September. A whopping 10 named storms developed between September and October. A couple of the most impactful hurricanes in this time for the U.S. were Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The season ended with three named storms in November, the last being Tropical Storm Sara.
