State Senator Mary Beth Carozza says she has the federal backing to halt U.S. Wind offshore project
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Maryland state Sen. Mary Beth Carozza continues to express concerns about offshore wind energy, focusing on its potential impact on tourism, the environment and commercial fishing.
The town of Ocean City is filing a lawsuit against U.S. Wind. Similar to a case in New York, the town hopes a federal judge will issue an injunction against the project.
Carozza said she may have the federal backing to stop it.
“Congressman Andy Harris just gave us an update from the Washington perspective; it appears that there will not be that support for those energy tax credits, and if that’s the case, it really starts to undermine the financials for these offshore developers.”
Nancy Sopko VP of External Affairs at U.S. Wind, provided a statement in response:
“US Wind will develop one of the largest energy projects in the region, full stop. Our project will help meet skyrocketing energy demand, support good, local jobs and contribute meaningfully to Delmarva’s economic development.”
