Somerset Education Association says 2025-2026 budget still not finalized
SOMERSET CO., Md. – The Somerset Education Association is sharing a critical update on the Somerset County Public Schools budget and contract negotiations for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year.
We’re told at this time, the Somerset County Board of Education has not been able to effectively collaborate with the Superintendent to finalize a school system budget, directly impacting the SEA’s ability to move forward with contract negotiations for school employees. The Board has reportedly canceled the two scheduled negotiation sessions on extremely short notice, which the SEA says has stalled the process and placed the entire system in a difficult position.
Due to the continued delays, school employees will not receive their scheduled salary increases on July 1st.
The SEA says, “We urge the Board to fulfill its responsibilities, re-engage in the negotiation process, and work collaboratively with the Superintendent to resolve the budget impasse. Our schools and staff cannot move forward under these conditions.”
