Searching for Shaquanna: Family recounts last movements of missing 25-year-old woman

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – 25-year-old Shaquanna Rutherford, known to many as Kita, has been missing for almost a month.

Monday, Salisbury Police released two images of Shaquanna’s last sighting, at the Wawa on Route 13 South, on May 18th.

Dynasha Seawright said that’s around the time she lost contact with her sister, Shaquanna. They’ve been searching for her in the areas she’s known to frequent, ever since.

“Right downtown is where people would usually see her, right on the bridge by the La Quinta and Anchorage Nursing Home,” said Seawright. “People said they often saw her over there, but here, recently, we’ve been looking all over.”

Shaquanna struggles with mental health disorders, but Seawright said they wouldn’t hinder her from getting help if she was in danger.

“She’s not the type to just get in somebody’s car and just disappear; she’s not a person that just gets in a car and is comfortable and sitting in the car for long periods of time,” said Seawright. “She’s a roamer, she likes to walk places, she doesn’t walk very far, but she will walk.”

The family has been putting up missing person posters around the city. Lieutenant Brandon Caton said SPD has also been covering ground in the community.

“We’ve identified some areas of interest where we’ve gone out, we’ve put some door hangers on with some pictures and identification, so your neighborhood may have been hit,” said Lt. Caton.

Police have identified and questioned three potential witnesses, but said they are still looking for leads that may help bring Shaquanna home.

“If anybody saw anything, saw this person, can put them in an area, that would be great so we can go back and do some back tracking,” said Lt. Caton.
