SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Police Department has announced the sudden unexpected passing of Senior Corporal Ryan Mitchell on Friday.

Officials say S/Cpl. Mitchell began his career with the City in 1995, and during his time he served in the Operations Division on Patrol, was a long time member of the Tactical Unit, and a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division and the Child Advocacy Center. He was most recently assigned as a patrol supervisor, assisting in the supervision and development of officers.

In a Facebook post, SPD said, “Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with S/Cpl. Mitchell’s family, loved ones, and all who mourn this great loss.”

Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor knew Mitchell and said, “Corporal Mitchell was a valued member of the City of Salisbury’s Police Department. I would like to personally extend my deepest sympathies to his family. Ryan will be greatly missed.”

We’re told the department is working closely with the family, and out of respect for the family, will not be releasing any additional details at this time.

Salisbury Police Chief David Meienschein also commented, saying, “Our hearts are heavy as our SPD family mourns the passing of Senior Corporal Ryan Mitchell. As a 30 year veteran, he touched so many as a leader, mentor, and friend. His passing creates a void that will be difficult to overcome.”
