Man arrested for burglary, attempted theft at Dover church
DOVER, Del. – Police say a man is behind bars on multiple charges stemming from a burglary investigation in Dover earlier this week.
Tuesday afternoon, officers were called to investigate a reported burglary at the Holy Cross Church at 631 South State Street. It was learned that a man reportedly entered the church by unknown means and tried to take money from the collection boxes before fleeing. Through further investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect as 42-year-old Joseph Skowronski, who had a no-contact order in place from a separate incident at the church.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, officers conducted a proactive property check at the church as a result of the burglary the previous night, at which time they found an open door. Skowronski was subsequently found inside and taken into custody.
Skowronski was charged with third degree burglary, second degree criminal trespassing, attempted theft, and two counts of non-compliance with bond. He was held at SCI on a $6,000 secured bail.
