Locals enjoy the sun in Unity Square
SALISBURY, MD. – Local children are enjoying the water and warm weather in Unity Square, located in downtown Salisbury.
Charlene Collins, a community member, was out watching the children play in the sun.
“A lot of people come out here, and it’s very nice that, you know, they made this area someplace for the kids to go,” she said.
With warm weather approaching and schools on summer break, Unity Square Park is becoming a popular and safe place to gather.
Another park visitor, Dario, shared his appreciation for the safe environment. “As you can see, it is something really nice. So, it’s a very, very nice environment for the kids. Hopefully, you know, it makes you feel more safe, for us, for the kids and for the parents too,” he said.
Children and community members said they are thrilled to have the park right in their neighborhood. Collins said she enjoys the convenience of its downtown location.
“It is very convenient because I live, like, about seven minutes away, so it’s really nice and we don’t have far to go,” she said.
While the central location is helpful for parents, the splash zone helps children stay cool.
“And my kids, these are my kids, and they just love it out here. Don’t you guys?” Collins said.
All the children responded, “I love it out here… me too!”
Dario said the name “Unity Square” feels fitting. “It feels just right, here in downtown. I feel, just, well, welcome, at home, and having my kids out here playing and all unified,” he said.
Unity Square is open 24 hours a day to the public.
