Lake Forest student athletes move on to the next level
FELTON, Del. – Reaching the end of the school calendar for many school districts, Monday saw the graduation ceremony for Lake Forest High School’s class of 2025.
Among the many great student athletes who were taking the next step in their journey was Darius Miller, a two-sport athlete at Lake. As a guard on the Lake basketball team and a receiver and defensive back on the football team, Miller has reached some remarkable milestones in his time as a Spartan.
Committed to play Division 1 football at Delaware State University under Head Coach DeSean Jackson, Miller reflected on the bittersweet end of his high school athletic career at Lake Forest and the mark he has left on their programs, saying, “It’s kind of crazy emotions and bit of disappointment, but happy to leave a legacy behind…a great basketball player scoring 1,000 points, and being on varsity for four years straight. Then in football, our team getting to the playoffs for three straight years in a row, that is great for us. Making the playoffs was kind of short but we made the most of the moments in the playoffs.
Also graduating was Brynn String, a two-sport star on the spartan’s soccer and field hockey teams. Excelling in the classroom as well as on the field, String was the valedictorian of her class in addition to being a 2024 1st Team All-State selection in field hockey, leading her team with 26 points on 11 goals and 4 assists.
The University of Delaware commit talked about her emotions as she wraped up her high school career, and what she’ll remember best from her time as a spartan: “It feels surreal. I can’t believe that we are already here and the four years have gone by so fast, and it feels like just yesterday I was a freshman and was walking into my scheduling meetings. It feels surreal and gratefully to be here…Really my team this year, field hockey we lost 11 seniors last year, and coming in we were a young team and so we weren’t sure. We had people telling us we were not going to make it far and to make it to the semi-finals as a senior really meant a lot this year. [We] really came together and we pushed through all the adversity that we had and really great to see we got over that for sure”
