Good Morning Delmarva discusses the Frederick Douglass Unity Day Crab Fest

WMDT – The Bailey-Groce Family Foundation is hosting its 2nd annual Unity Day Crab Fest this Saturday, June 28th.

This morning, Tarence Bailey Sr., their president and also the 5-time nephew of Frederick Douglass, stopped by to tell us all about it.

We’re told they’re the only Frederick Douglass family-founded organization in the state of Maryland.

The foundation focuses on preserving African American History and providing educational programs.

They launched a campaign called “Operation Frederick Douglass on the Hill” to create a legacy memorial that showcases 400 years of history.

Tarence tells us they began this annual event as a means to bring the community together to celebrate between Juneteenth and the Fourth of July.

He describes it as an eastern shore-style celebration with crabs, beer, and a car show.

The event is being held in Easton and will run from 2 p.m. to sundown.
