Emerging Leader: Lafayette Bell

WMDT – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to a new emerging leader.

Lafayette Bell, known as “Sergeant Bell the Rapper” wrote and recorded the Toys for Tots rap that has been used since 1998.

This morning, he stopped by to share what it has been like promoting Toys for Tots and being recognized with the United States Marine Corps Reserve Commanders Awards.

Bell tells us that he started off as a sergeant in the Marine Corps Reserve which how he came up with his stage name.

His first sergeant was able to connect him with Toys for Tots where he submitted various songs hoping one would be chosen for publishing.

We’re told that his song was used to help get African Americans involved in donating and supporting the organization.

Lafayette is currently working on a new horror movie called “Then, Came a Rainbow”.

If you think you know someone that would be perfect for our emerging leader segment, please send us your recommendations at newsroom@wmdt.com
