Dover man arrested following reported assault at shopping center
DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police say a man is behind bars on aggravated menacing and other charges stemming from an incident on Saturday.
At around 2 p.m., troopers were called to the Rodney Village Shopping Center in Dover for a reported assault. At the scene, troopers reportedly found an intoxicated man, identified as 74-year-old Peter Reidy, who had been sprayed with pepper spray. It was further learned that Reidy had been disorderly in the parking lot and aggressively approached the male victim in front of Harbor Freight with a screwdriver. A woman and two children were also reportedly inside the victim’s vehicle. Reidy then allegedly grabbed the victim and pushed him against his vehicle before the woman in the victim’s vehicle sprayed Reidy with pepper spray.
The victim was not injured. Reidy was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Reidy was taken into custody upon release from the hospital and charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, offensive touching, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication. He was held at SCI on a $47,201 secured bond.
