Dorchester Co. Health Department Cuts Ribbon on New Building

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – If you’re on Race Street in Cambridge you can’t miss the new building for the Dorchester County Health Department.

And plenty of people we spoke with at the ribbon cutting tell us how much of a benefit this is going to be to the community and healthcare providers.

County Council President, Lenny Pfeffer says the move is going to be huge for everyone

Pfeffer tells us, “So having this larger building is going to allow the staff to kind of move out a little bit and spread out and do a better job of what they have to do. Having more private space for interviews and examinations with the citizens.”

The change for those working in and with the health department is a big deal, as the original facility left people with exam rooms the size of a small closet.

Dr. Casey Scott with the Health Department says, “I think it really allows us to partner with neighboring agencies. We have One Mission just across the street. I think the world is our oyster at this new location.”

And to many of the people whom the Health Department partner with, they’re giving them levels of accessibility downtown that were previously unavailable.

“…Because we provide transportation. But having them this close to the community is going to be a huge help for those people to access services,” says Erin Windsor with Pleasant Day Adult Day Care.

Lenny Pfeffer tells us having the Health Department downtown is a major step towards making Cambridge a more walkable city.
