Diet Foodie Friday: Roadie Joe’s Bar & Grill

"Delmarva's Delicious Diets"

SALISBURY, Md. – Foodie Friday is now adding a special Foodie once in a while, highlighting Restaurants that cater to food restrictions, with a special version of Foodie Friday entitled Delmarva’s Delicious Diets!

Diets can Dine

For the past 5 years Owner Jeremy Norton of Roadie Joe’s in Salisbury says they’ve made sure those with allergies or restrictions can dine as well. “It’s really important that people know what they’re putting into their bodies, and one of the reasons that we did this was to make sure that we were as transparent as we could be and educating our servers and our staff on how to accommodate those guests is really important.”

From Sweet corn nuggets to Mock wings, they have plenty of vegan and gluten free choices. “So, everything we cook or sauté we use canola oil, again for allergies a lot of people are developing soy allergies. So, to avoid that we switched everything that we have to canola oil based.”

Rice Bowl

However, Jeremy says even carnivores crave the bowl. “So, our rice bowl is our number one seller now, it used to be all cheese steaks and chicken wings, and the rice bowl kind of took over the world. It’s a healthy alternative to your traditional fried food.”

The bowl can be topped with any of the meats they serve but I chose to do mine veggie style. “Our veggies that we put into the rice bowl, we use fresh cut red onions, grape tomatoes, our shaved carrots, and bell peppers and of course we also put broccoli with that…”

“Ok so this is the vegetable bowl, and I did get a fried egg on top- obviously you can do that without and make this completely vegan- you know, I really want to try their seaweed salad first so I’m going to try that just to taste that. It’s very sweet, that’s not what I expected, I thought it would be more salty- but it’s very sweet.”

The Mango habanero spiced things up. “That is good but that is hot-if you’re not a spicy person, that is not for you, but it is good.” But what about their sweet chili sauce? “It’s not too spicy, it goes perfectly with the vegetables and their seaweed salad, and it actually compliments the fried egg very well… Ok Roadie Joe’s, I see you, this is good, I like this.”

Veggie Burger

Thier veggie burger topped with marinated spicy pickles, lettuce, tomato and their dairy- free secret sauce, floats on a surprisingly fluffy gluten free bun is just the bite you need. “This is really good, and honestly, I cannot tell that this bun is a gluten free bun. You know I remember the days when I used to eat mean and this is very close to it.”

The kettle chips brought the flavor as well. Norton says they do their best to please their guest. “We really saw the need to adapt. There were a lot of people that were searching for allergy type menus, and we just filled a void.”

Roadie Joes is open Monday through Saturday starting at 11:00 am and located at 213 West Main Street in Salisbury, MD. If you check their allergy specific menu, be sure to tell them you saw them on Foodie Friday’s Delmarva’s Delicious Diets, and if you have suggestions for Tierra, send them here!
