DelDOT addressing heat-related road buckling

DELAWARE – The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is addressing several instances of road buckling during this week’s extreme heat.

Officials say there have been five instances of road buckling on Route 113 in Sussex County on Tuesday, one on Route 1 near Milford, and another Wednesday morning near Five Points in Lewes. DelDOT crews are using grinding equipment to level off the areas that have buckled in order to remove the immediate hazard, with plans to schedule more permanent repairs at a later date.

Drivers are advised to remain alert and slow down for crews working to address the issues.

Anyone encountering a road buckling issue can report it by calling DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center at #77 when it is safe to do so.
