DCPS Working on Strategic Plan
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – School may be out for Summer but there’s something big in the works for Dorchester County Public Schools.
The school system is planning to unveil their Strategic Plan later this Summer that will happen during a program with the Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber President, Bill Christopher tells us about the need to discuss that upcoming Strategic Plan with chamber members, among others in the community.
Bill says, “Even if you don’t have kids, it doesn’t really matter. What happens in the schools affects everybody in the county. Because it drives our economy. The better, stronger. The economy is the less taxes you have to pay, which again, whether you have kids or not, that should be important to you.”
Details of the plan are still pending approval from the county’s Board of Education, but what we know currently is that Dorchester County Public Schools are ranked 23rd out of 24 districts in the state, leading to a push called “23 No More.”
“23 No More has been Dr. Thomson’s rallying cry since he took over a year ago. He’s just finished his first year in the role and his objective is to figure out how to move the school system from being 23 out of 24, which it has been for a while to 15 or better in the state,” says Bill.
We reached out to Dorchester County Superintendent, Dr. Jymile Thompson, and he has not been able to return our request for an interview at this time.
The meeting to discuss the Strategic Plan will take place on August 12th at noon at 100 Heron Boulevard in Cambridge.
Guests must register by 5 P.M. on August 5th. Chamber members get in for $25, Non-members for $35.
