Crews hard at work building new Parsonsburg Library

PARSONSBURG, Md. – If you’re driving down Parsonsburg Road in Wicomico County, you’ve probably seen the future home of the Parsonsburg Library.

The new location is taking over the old Pittsville Library, which branch manager, Kerry O’Donnell has been running out of a trailer.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said O’Donnell. “We’ve been in the trailer for over 20 years now and we have utilized all of the space that we have, every inch, and we’ve outgrown that space.”

Crews have been hard at work getting the space ready for it to be opened to the public, next year. Library director Seth Hershberger said it’ll have all the bells and whistles a library needs, and then some.

“We’re excited to see it come together. It’s starting to really look like a public library, right here in Parsonsburg,” said Hershberger. “It’s starting to look like a really beautiful public library.”

The library won’t just be home to books; it’ll be a hub for learning and programs.

“We’re going to do a lot of technological programs; we’re going to have a lot of stem programs. We’re going to utilize the outside, here, for a lot of nature and educational programs,” said O’Donnell.

She added, the landscaping will be filled with gardens for kids to learn about pollen and plants native to the Eastern Shore, and the inside will be a comfortable safe haven for patrons to relax and read.

“It’s a dream come true; it’s 20 years in the making,” said O’Donnell. “It’s sort of culmination of what seems like a lifetime of this library we’ve grown up with and it’s sort of come to maturity.”
