Cambridge PD Discusses Sunday Homicide and Recent Gun Report
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – Cambridge Police are searching for a suspect following a deadly shooting last night.
Law enforcement responded to reports of 23 year old Alyson Elien being shot in the head, with her later being pronounced dead at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge.
In a release sent out late Monday afternoon, officers found a handgun as well as other pieces of evidence at the crime scene.
We met with Cambridge Police Chief, Justin Todd Monday afternoon about the shooting and how it’s been a mark against the efforts law enforcement has taken to lower the number of shootings in the city.
Chief Todd tells us, “It certainly was and has been in the past a high crime area. We’ve been working hard on gun seizures and being proactive and things have been better. Unfortunately, yesterday evening, due to several individuals that wanted to cause trouble and become a problem and an issue took took a life for no reason.”
And Chief Todd says, this shooting notwithstanding that Cambridge has seen a general decrease in shooting related since 2022 thanks in part to a camera system which is in places like Cameila Street to try and find shooters like this one.
“When you see something, say something, I said, old saying, and I keep going back to it. Part of what we’ve been trying to do with community oriented policing in and Patrolling With a Purpose is build that community trust and that relationship between the police and its citizens,” said the Cambridge Police Chief.
We reached out to numerous people in the neighborhood around Cameila Street about Sunday night’s shooting, but no one wanted to comment on or off camera.
Chief Todd says no details about the suspect are being released at this time.
