Animal Rescue Provides Tips to Protect Pets This Summer
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – We’re only a few days away from the official start of Summer. and that means keeping yourself and just as importantly, your pets safe from the heat.
The Baywater Animal Rescue in Cambridge shared some tips on how to make sure your four legged friends don’t fall victim to high temps.
Administrative Assistant Patticarol Smith says there is a list of a few things to keep in mind for dogs and cats, and it goes beyond simply making sure they have some water.
Smith tells us, “Water that sits a while will sometimes get algae in it, which will make them sick as will rainwater. They also have to have shade, and doghouse is not shade. Shade from trees, canopies or umbrellas. You also need to keep in mind that you want to check the pavements and sidewalks before you let pets walk on them. They get very hot on their paws…”
You may feel like you’ve heard this advice before, but Baywater Animal Rescue says it bears repeating to make sure pets can be protected.
“Their lives depend on it, just like ours. I mean, if we don’t give them what they need to stay hydrated and shaded and cool in this weather, they could die just like us. So it’s very important to keep mentioning it over and over,” says Smith.
And Baywater Animal Rescue wants to remind pet owners to never leave your pet in a hot car.
