2025 Berlin Bathtub Races returns again
The races kicked off at 6 p.m. after a parade down Main Street. Local businesses competed using their own custom-designed racing bathtubs.
Berlin Chamber of Commerce Vice President David Fitzgerald said the tradition brings out much of the town.
“It’s a fun family event. We’ve got 16 teams racing tonight, and they’re going after the Turner Cup trophy, which our local artist Jeff Oxford made for us a few years ago,” he said.
Fitzgerald said the event is a valuable economic development tool, especially for restaurants. He said residents typically stay out and visit local bars.
He also noted it provides local vendors with the opportunity to showcase their products.
Despite the positive aspects, Fitzgerald described the event as highly competitive.
“Competition gets fierce. It’s friendly, but fierce. People like to win and retain their championships. And it does bring the community together – everyone can enjoy it, from kids to senior citizens,” he said.
