UMES announces actions to comply with statewide budget cuts
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore says it is undertaking several financial measures to comply with 10% required and anticipated budget cuts from the State of Maryland.
UMES announced on Tuesday the following actions in accordance with the state mandate:
- Eliminate all positions that have been vacant for three years or more
- Institute a hiring pause with some rare exceptions
- Initiate telework Fridays for some employees from May 23rd through August 8th
- Provide all employees with a modest cost of living adjustment.
We’re told additional savings are anticipated through attrition, reduction in temporary workforce, furloughs, and routine personnel realignment.
This is all part of statewide budget cuts to help address Maryland’s $3 billion deficit.
