Mayor of Hurlock takes stand against potential tax increases imposed by Dorchester County Government

HURLOCK Md. – The Mayor of Hurlock is speaking out against tax increases in Dorchester County. The county is considering raising taxes and imposing fees to help cover its costs after the state’s budget crisis.

Currently, they are fighting against a $6.2 million deficit. They plan for Cambridge and Hurlock residents to pay for extra property taxes and remove its tax differential.

Mayor Charles Cephas is urging residents to make their voices heard at the county council meeting. Mayor Cephas pledges to do everything in his power to overturn what he terms an unfair decision. “I plan to take every measure possible, including filing injunctions and taking Dorchester County to court if they don’t change this unfair way that they are doing things now.”

Tonight’s council meeting will take place at 501 Court Lane in Cambridge, starting at 6 p.m.
