Mardela softball claims fourth straight Regional Championship over North Dorchester
MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. – Mardela softball took home the 1A East II Regional Championship with a 3-1 victory over North Dorchester in Mardela Springs on Wednesday.
The Warriors got on the board first with a 2-out RBI single from Ella Twilley in first inning of what would be a low-scoring game.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of Mardela until the bottom of the fifth, when a Lexie Guy double brought home Abby Campbell to double the Warriors’ lead.
Still in the fifth, Ava Twilley hit an RBI double that scored Guy, bringing the score to 3-0 Mardela.
North Dorchester would find their offense in the top of seventh inning, but the Eagles were only able to muster one run, giving Mardela a 3-1 victory and their fourth straight regional title.
In the circle for the Warriors, Ava Twilley allowed only three hits and struck out 12 in a complete game.
After the game, Head Coach Kory Shiles said about his team’s accomplishment: “It’s pretty special, not many teams get the chance to win that many regional championships in a row. This is a special group we have, they work extremely hard on and off the field, in the classroom, in the community, and it’s good to see good people win and these are a bunch of great student athletes who play the game the right way. So we’re super excited about four in a row and taking the next step and getting the chance to play again on Friday or Saturday.
Mardela advances to the MPSSAA 1A Quarterfinals.
