IRSD to host first public meeting about the current expense referendum this week
SELBYVILLE, Del. – The Indian River School District will host its first of three public meetings about the current expense referendum this week.
School district officials say they need more funding to deal with increasing operating costs and to maintain a competitive salary package.
The first meeting will be held at Millsboro Middle School on Wednesday, May 14 at 7 pm.
The other two meetings will be held Wednesday, May 21 at 7 pm at Lord Baltimore Elementary School and Wednesday, May 28 at 7 pm at Indian River High School.
District officials will give a presentation outlining the referendum initiative.
The public is invited and will have the chance to ask questions.
“We understand that the referendum process is difficult, but it’s something that school systems in the state of Delaware must go through in order to generate the revenue that’s needed to run our school system efficiently and we believe that schools in our community provide an invaluable service and we hope that our community understands that and invests in our students’ future on June 5th,” said Indian River School District Superintendent Dr. Jay Owens.
The referendum is scheduled for June 5th.
