Honoring Our Fallen Soliders

SALISBURY, Md.- A local mother is spotlighting fallen soldiers from the Salisbury area.

As you ride across South Salisbury, you may have noticed banners hanging from lamp posts on Eastern Shore Drive.

These banners are part of the Hometown Heroes initiative, where the goal is to pay tribute and honor local soldiers across the country.

Eastern Shore local, Nicole Bozman, comes from a military family, and she started to notice the lack of banners in Salisbury.

Bozman says that “I see they are in Hebron; they’re in Mardela; they’re in Delmar; they’re in Ocean City; they’re in all these towns but Salisbury.”

She also notes that “Delmar did similar to this program about a year ago, and my son went to in Delmar High School, and middle school, and elementary school and all that. I thought it was a great way to honor him.”

Nicole’s son Cody was an Army Veteran, and passed away in 2021.

Shortly after his passing, Bozman found out that her son was going to be a father.

She tells us that her new purpose is to keep her son’s legacy alive, and to make sure her grandson knows what his father stood for.

With the Hometown Heroes banners, she hopes to amplify the voices of other military families.

“I just don’t want people to forget these amazing people who sacrificed so much” she said, “…because it’s not just a sacrifice on the person joining the military it’s a sacrifice on their family.”

If you or anyone you know would like to honor a loved one on a banner  reach out to the Salisbury Hometown Heroes Facebook page or email Salisburyhometownheroes@gmail.com.
