Gov. Matt Meyer reflects on first 100 days in office
DELAWARE. – Delaware Governor Matt Meyer reached his first 100 days in office and is already looking forward to what he can accomplish in the next 100 days and beyond.
The governor reflected on some of his most notable accomplishments, one of them being his commitment to upholding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives across the First State.
“I think most Americans are looking for a respectful, inclusive place– dare I say a diverse, an equitable and inclusive place,” said Gov. Meyer. “I’ve been unambiguous and non-compromising on that. Delaware is that place and Delaware will continue to be that place.”
Gov. Meyer was sworn in just one day after President Trump was inaugurated, and he’s been critical of the administration ever since.
With a large Hispanic and Haitian population in his state, who are fearful of the president’s recent deportation push, Gov. Meyer said he’s been actively working to ensure the rights of his constituents stay their own.
“We’re going to act on facts, we’re going to act on law; I want everybody that comes to Delaware to live their American dream,” said Gov. Meyer.
“I live here, I enjoy living here, because it’s a diverse, equitable and inclusive place, and we have to make sure it’s not just like that in our big cities, but in our small towns and rural ones, everywhere across the state,” he added.
Looking ahead, Gov. Meyer said he plans to continue to tackle the issues that he laid out in campaign and State of the State address, from public education to public safety.
“My job is not to fight for the president. It wasn’t when Obama was president, it wasn’t when Biden was president, it’s not when Trump is. My job is to fight for the American people, and that’s what we’re doing,” said Gov. Meyer.
