Dover teen arrested on multiple charges following chase in stolen vehicle
DOVER, Del. – A 17-year-old has been charged with DUI and multiple additional felonies stemming from a chase in a stolen car.
At around 12:40 a.m. Thursday, a Delaware State Police trooper on patrol saw a Lexus ES350 driving eastbound on President Drive, approaching Bay Road. A computer check showed the vehicle was stolen from Maryland, and the trooper subsequently tried to pull the car over, but the driver failed to stop and led the trooper on a chase. The driver reportedly drove recklessly at a high rate of speed on several Dover area streets and roads before finally stopping on Roosevelt Avenue near Chase Drive, at which time the 17-year-old driver and an unknown passenger allegedly fled from the car.
When arresting the suspect, troopers noticed signs of impairment and conducted subsequent field sobriety tests. The teen was charged with disregarding a police officer’s signal, receiving stolen property over $1500, second degree conspiracy, resisting arrest, driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a valid license, and reckless driving. He was later released on his own recognizance to a parent/guardian.
