Cape girl’s lacrosse holds off Caesar Rodney to wrap undefeated regular season

CAMDEN, Del. – Cape girl’s lacrosse held on to beat Caesar Rodney 12-9 in a regular season finale that featured two of the best teams in Delaware in Camden on Thursday.

The Riders took an early 2-1 lead in the 1st quarter, but Cape responded with four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 advantage into the 2nd.

CR outscored Cape 2-1 in the 2nd quarter, bringing the score to 6-4 at halftime.

The Vikings took control of the game in the first eight minutes of the 2nd half, scoring four straight to open up a 10-4 lead with about 16 minutes to play in the game. Caesar Rodney once again answered with a run of their own, netting three unanswered in the final minutes of the 3rd quarter. The teams entered the 4th with Cape leading 10-7.

The Riders cut Cape’s lead to 11-9 with under four minutes remaining, but an insurance goal from the Vikings and sure-handed possession ran out the clock on CR’s comeback attempt.

Caesar Rodney finishes the 2025 regular season with a 13-2 record.

With the victory, Cape moves to 14-0-1, the program’s second straight regular season without a loss.

After the game, Cape Head Coach Lindsey Underwood explained how the Vikings were able to hold on win, saying, “I think they just hung tight and they just played solid Cape lacrosse. That’s what we keep telling them: your lacrosse is good enough, what we do is good enough. We just have to keep staying focused and executing the way we need to.”

On the Vikings’ undefeated season, Coach Underwood said, “It’s crazy, we graduated 13 seniors last year, so coming into the season I couldn’t tell if the girls believed, [or] if they were just relaxed and low key. But they’ve done things that no one thought they could do and I’m not sure they thought they could do when the season began.”
