Cape girl’s lacrosse dominates, takes home second straight DIAA Championship

CAMDEN, Del. – Cape girl’s lacrosse put on an impressive performance versus Tower Hill to claim the program’s second straight DIAA Championship by a final score of 20-9 at Rider Stadium in Camden on Saturday.

The Vikings jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Tower Hill tightened the game with two goals of their own.

Cape put their foot on the gas from there, scoring six more goals to lead 9-3 at the end of the first quarter.

The Vikings never looked back from that point, allowing the Hillers to only get as close as 11-6 in the second quarter.

The second half saw Cape net another nine goals, outscoring their opponent by a margin of six for a decisive 20-9 victory in the DIAA Championship.

2025 marks the second consecutive season the Vikings have finished as the last team standing in the First State, and the second year in a row they end their campaign without a loss on their record (18-0-1).

Cape’s undefeated 2024 squad graduated 13 seniors. After the game, Head Coach Lindsey Underwood explained how her players stepped up to fill the gaps left behind: “I think it’s just a willingness to get on the field. The number of players that came to me and said, ‘Coach, we’ll play wherever you want me to play as long as I get on the field.’ We had some girls pick up some different positions, which was really great to see. Reagan Bass really stepped in on the midfield, coming from attack. And the ability to get up and down the field is just something that this whole team should be really proud of.”

On the team’s response after Tower Hill closed the gap early in the game, Underwood said, “One of the best things about this team is just how calm they are. They’re so laid back. It was actually different to coach this year, we had to readjust a couple things on our end because they are just so calm and so laid back, and they really just plug along. They don’t know they’re doing things they kind of shouldn’t do at their age, which is also fun to coach.”
