Breeze Airways launching flights to Florida from Salisbury Airport
SALISBURY, Md. – Breeze Airways is introducing new flights from Salisbury Regional Airport to Florida, opening up direct access to Orlando, one of the most popular destinations for local travelers.
“We identified the Orlando market. That’s our number one destination for people that live in this area, but they don’t necessarily fly out of Salisbury to get there,” said Tony Rudy, airport manager at Salisbury Regional Airport.
Airport officials are hopeful that the addition of Breeze Airways will not only offer more convenience to local residents but also help the airport grow.
“We’re hoping we can prove ourselves with that market and maybe they can add either additional flights to the same market or add a second or third market down the road as the travel kind of supports that,” Rudy said.
Beyond Breeze, the airport is looking to bring in more carriers.
“We have been talking to all the major airlines out there and some others that offer some unique products, as well as talking to American to see what we might be able to support,” Rudy added.
Business leaders are also optimistic about the economic ripple effects. Bill Chambers, president and CEO of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, said the potential for expansion could be a major win for the region.
“If these flights with Breeze take off—and we are hoping they will—and they expand services, maybe in the future we see expanded services from others. This will only be an economic boost to our region,” Chambers said.
He added that success at the airport could lead to job growth, increased business for local shops, and a rise in tourism to Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
“We’ll see the employee model grow with Breeze and we will see businesses benefit from this. I think we’ll see an uptick in tourism that’s migrating to the Eastern Shore,” Chambers said.
