After the Whistle: Milford’s Hannah Zimmerman
MILFORD, Del. – Since her Freshman year, Hannah Zimmerman has been a standout athlete for both Milford’s field hockey and girl’s lacrosse teams. The senior said that when she’s on the field, she’s always in attack mode.
“I’m definitely very aggressive and sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst. But I’m learning. I, I definitely just when I see the goal, I just want to get the ball in there. No matter how hard it takes,” Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman has led Bucs‘ girls lacrosse and field hockey in points every year since 2022. Being so central to her teams’ successes has translated to growth off the field: “I’ve definitely had to step up more as a leader, which has helped me in a lot of aspects of my life. Just learning to make connections with people and learning how to be that like older figure for someone and helping get them through practices or games, stuff like that.”
Committed to play Division 1 field hockey at VCU, Zimmerman understands that her work is just beginning, saying, “I’m already prepared that it’s going to be a lot harder. I’m definitely used to being, you know, ‘good’ I guess you could say, here. But when I go to the next level, it’s going to be a lot harder and I’m going to have to prove myself.”
Zimmerman holds high expectations for herself and she’s never going to shy away from a challenge. “I know for a fact that I’m going to get better when I get there and I see so much more potential in myself, like, you know, and the grind never stops. I guess you could say like, yeah, there’s always chances for you to get better. And I definitely live like that a lot,” she said.
