Weather Tidbits: Tornado Intensity Levels & Rarity
In this edition of Weather Tidbits, we’re going to be discussing tornado intensity levels based off of the Enhanced Fujita Scale and talk about their rarity. This is based off of 21,540 tornadoes between the years 2007 and 2025 in the country. Based on this data, 51.5% of the tornadoes were EF1. 36.5% of the tornadoes were EF2. 9.1% of the tornadoes were EF2. 2.3% of the tornadoes were EF3. 0.45% of the tornadoes were EF4, and 0.04% of the tornadoes were EF5. Clearly, this shows that in comparison to the lower end tornadoes, the higher end, violent tornadoes are very rare to come by.
