UMES STEM educator Brad Hartle teaches Good Morning Delmarva how to make cartesian divers

WMDT – UMES STEM educator Brad Hartle stopped by Good Morning Delmarva for another kid friendly science experiment.

This morning Brad showed Jake and Jordie how to create a Cartesian diver!

A cartesian diver uses a water bottle, pipette or straw, water and clay to illustrate Boyle’s Law, Pascal’s Law, Buoyancy and Density.

It’s important that if you use a straw, you use plastic because paper will disintegrate in the water.

We’re told that your diver can last for years, and pressure can cause the diver to move back and forth within the water bottle.

Watch the full science experiment to learn more about cartesian divers!
