Town of Blades council election takes place April 7th
BLADES, Del. – The town of Blades will hold its elections on Monday, April 7th. The three candidates shared their vision for Blades with WMDT. They will face off for two seats. The battle is between incumbent councilmen Gary Miller and Gary Gallamore. John Reiss is running to get back into town leadership. He was formerly the mayor of Blades, having also served on the council.
Miller specializes in the street department and believes the town has made progress already. In the last 2 years, we’ve worked hard to get tools and upgrade our equipment, which had been anywhere from 10 to 25 years old.”
Gallamore and Miller have worked together on the council for the past 2 years. However, Gallamore has plans if he is re-elected. “We need another water pumping station, a new well, a new water storage facility, and a new processing station.”
John Reiss, though, believes the town needs new leadership. “Nothing against the gentlemen, I don’t know them, but they haven’t lived here for that long. I’ve lived in Blades since 2005, and I’ve seen it grow.”
Candidates are looking forward to a new 12-acre residential property on the way. They agree with the ‘Cypress Landing Project’ will bolster the Blades economy. It will hold 92 units, bringing in a potential $600, in property tax annually and around $40 in water bills.
Reiss thinks this is an opportunity for the town to take the next step. “Growth is good for any community because people need housing, growth is good for tax space, growth is good for businesses if it’s done correctly.”
Miller thinks this addition to the town will bring the financial success it needs. “Blades has a great future coming up, we finally have some, because of the condos; more money that we can now work with.”
