State Senator Mary Beth Carozza pushes back against solar energy on the shore
MARYLAND. – Maryland State Senator Mary Beth Carozza is pushing back against solar projects on the Eastern Shore. This comes after an intense General Assembly session, where the state Senate passed bills on the initiatives.
Senate Bill 931 would give the Public Service Commission (PSC) power to approve projects and override local zoning decisions.
Senator Carozza is worried that without local government oversight, local farmers and their land will be negatively impacted. “The problem is that these solar companies come in, and they take advantage of the zoning regulations in place, and try to buy up large acreage, which tends to be farmland.”
She thinks that with the right regulations, solar power could ultimately be a benefit to the shore.
