Sen. Chris Coons tours digital forensic lab impacted by tariffs

MAGNOLIA, Del. – US Senator Chris Coons of Delaware stopping in Magnolia to visit a digital forensic lab today.

The topic of discussion – tariffs and their impact on the small business.

“We’re a custom manufacturer of work stations in particular, we’re well known for forensics but we make any kind of custom work station,” said Jason Roslewicz, Vice President of Business Development.

Sumuri Digital Forensic Solutions supplies custom work stations and forensic software to both government and civilian clients globally to combat child exploitation.

“It’s a story of customization, it’s a story of delivering a product with heart to meet a growing need around the world and it’s a company that reached out to me saying they were having some challenges in terms of tariffs and wanted to have me hear from them directly what the challenges are for their business and their workforce from the tariffs,” said Sen. Chris Coons.

Sumuri employs 40 workers and took in $20 million in revenue in 2024.

But like many companies that heavily rely on imports and exports, they are worried about the impact of President Trump’s tariffs on their business growth.

“It’s raising the cost of their raw imports, it’s raising the cost of their most important finished component parts and it’s injected unpredictability into their business plans,” said Sen. Coons.

That unpredictability is making the future uncertain for the business and the development of their work stations.

“They’re made out of high quality materials that we get and source here in the US as much as we can, however, it’s like any other manufacturing company that works with electronics a lot of these components need to come from overseas,” said Roslewicz.

Roslewicz believes the business will remain strong through the uncertainty, but that doesn’t mean he’s taking his eyes off what’s to come.

“The business will survive, we’ll keep people in place here but I’m very concerned about what’s going to happen and how we can plan to move forward,” he said.
