Salisbury University kicks off centennial with logo unveiling
SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University kicked off its centennial celebration today with a big unveiling.
“Salisbury Forever” is the new mantra of the centennial logo that was unveiled by SU Thursday afternoon.
This, as the the university gets ready to celebrate its 100th anniversary beginning in September.
“When you think about ‘Salisbury Forever,’ once you graduate from this place, once you’re here, once you’ve been part of it, whether you’re a staff, a faculty, a student and an alum it’s always a part of you so ‘Salisbury Forever’ just makes a lot of sense,” said Jason Curtin, Vice President of Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
Leaders with Salisbury University said the logo is a reminder that a university is more than just a place.
“It’s not somewhere where you come for a few years and take some classes, the spirit of Salisbury University, what Salisbury can do for someone’s career and future lasts with them for a lifetime and so the logo is a representation that the education and the experience you have at Salisbury University will be with you forever,” said Salisbury University President Carolyn Lepre.
The date of the unveiling, April 24, coincided with the date the first brick for Holloway Hall was laid in 1924.
“I think it’s important for us to think about where we’ve come from so that we can recognize what we’re building upon, building that foundation for the future,” said Lepre. “I also think it’s a moment for us to take a step and recognize the impact that we have on our students and on the community and to celebrate all the things we are doing here that makes the world a better place.”
Next on the event calendar, the 100th commencement ceremony will move to Seagull Stadium to launch the institution’s 100th anniversary celebration.
That commencement event will be the first time Salisbury has held the ceremony on campus in quite some time.
There will also be plenty of other activities as the university’s 100th year rolls on.
On September 7th the university will recognize Founder’s Day with a brand new event, Fun Fest in the Nest.
It’s a tradition school officials hope will continue for years to come.
