Salisbury residents are speaking up about roadway conditions on social media
SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury residents are speaking up on social media about potholes around town. There are many road hazards across the city that people remain cautious of, but the potholes on the intersection of West Naylor Mill Road and Jersey Road are considered the worst.
Kristy Marvel, a resident of 30 years, has her concerns. “That intersection alone, you almost want your alignment checked.”
The chatter online about the roads was created in a Salisbury, Maryland Facebook group.
The post garnered over a hundred reactions and dozens of comments – all hoping to get the attention of city officials. Mayor Randy Taylor said the winter weather has made roadway management difficult.
“The snowstorms this year, we had a disproportionate amount of salt, and thus a disproportionate number of potholes in some cases. We’ve taken an increased inventory of where they are and plan to repair those that need it.”
Marvel has had issues on many roadways, citing the need to take different routes to visit family, just to avoid them. She said roadway conditions have been an issue since the 1990’s.
“The road conditions have steadily gone downhill over the years, which started as a bad bump has now become a crater.”
City leaders are currently fleshing out the budget. Mayor Taylor said he has a plan to fix the current issues.
“We’re going to budget another $1 million dollars this year in bonded dollars to repave streets overlooked in past years.”
City Council President D’Shawn Doughty has heard the complaints, and strongly reassures residents that the Council is working alongside the Mayor’s office to get roadways patched, and repaved.
“We need streets that have the most need, are targeted with these funds. It’s not who screams the loudest, but for streets neglected for years.”
Some residents are calling for a traffic study to figure out which intersections see a lot of wear and tear.
