Queen Anne’s Co. deputy injured after being hit by drunk driver during traffic stop
QUEEN ANNE’S CO., Md. – A Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Deputy was reportedly hit by a drunk driver during a traffic stop late Saturday night.
At around 11:20 p.m., Deputy First Class Schulz was conducting a traffic stop on eastbound Route 50 near Romancoke Road, when an uninvolved vehicle driving at a high rate of speed hit the occupied patrol vehicle from behind. The impact of the crash pushed the deputy’s vehicle roughly ten feet forward, causing it to crash into the vehicle that he had originally stopped.
Both the patrol vehicle and the striking vehicle were deemed inoperable.
DFC Schulz was taken to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.
Deputies contacted the driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as 35-year-old Christopher Teta of Stevensville. Deputies noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from Teta’s breath and observed several indicators of impairment. After Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Teta was arrested and charged with DUI, DWI, negligent driving, reckless driving, driving vehicle in excess of reasonable speed on highway, and multiple traffic related offenses.
