Plans are underway for new skate park in Berlin

BERLIN, Md. – Plans are underway to build a new skate park in the town of Berlin.

Monday members of We Heart Berlin and the Public Works Department were out marking the dimensions of where the skate park is going to go.

The skate park is estimated to be 16,000 to 17,000 square feet and will cost approximately $1.2 million.

The project is in the fundraising stages and organizers are looking for more money from the Department of Natural Resources grant program.

“It’s for everybody and it’s mostly important for accessibility,” said Tony Weeg, Executive Director of We Heart Berlin. “A lot of kids around here don’t have a way to get to a skate park and they don’t have somebody with a car that can drive them to Ocean City or drive them to another skate park, so having one here in town that they can walk to is extremely important and that’s primarily why we are doing this.”

The goal is to break ground on the skate park in 2027 or earlier.

Once started, the project is looking to be complete by the end of that summer.
