Officials cut ribbon to new EMS facility
SUSSEX COUNTY, Md. – The county and Emergency Medical Services decided their sweet spot for the new fire house would be on Dickerson Road in Millsboro, right off of Rt. 113.
Public safety director, Robbie Murray said the new move helps with quicker response time.
“Previously, we were about three quarters of a mile south, but we were in a business park, and just navigating that business park, we knew, took a minute, sometimes a minute and a half,” said Murray. “Being on the southbound side of 113 allows us to get south, so even though we moved north, it allows us to get access southbound a lot faster.”
And their response has in fact improved. over the last two months, Murray said they’ve been working out of the new location.
“Overall, our response time to the primary areas has improved, just about 16%,” said Murray.
With the new firehouse set to enhance services in the area, Sussex County Administrator, Todd F. Lawson said the community will reap great benefits from the upgrade.
“The county, residents and visitors should be very proud of the services that the county government supports, by way of our paramedics,” said Lawson.
