OC property owners create short-term rental petition

OCEAN CITY, Md.- Some Ocean City residents are upset about a recent renting decision, so they’re banding together to find solutions.

Back in March, Town Council voted to ban short term rentals in the R1 Single Family Development and the Mobile Home Residential District.

Renters who opposed the decision decided to create a petition for a referendum to be added to the next ballot. The petition has over 1,300 signatures and was sent off to the town clerk for approval.

Property owner, Linda Tucker said this is the first step in regaining their rental rights.

“I would say 1 out of every 15 didn’t want short term rentals, even if they weren’t affected by it, they just had their own reason. But most people were either in favor of having the rentals, because they said there’s always been these rentals in Ocean City, or some did not like the way it was put into force,” said Tucker.

The petitioners needed 950 signatures to be considered by town officials.
