New Amazon facility coming to Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – Seaford has one, and now Salisbury will, too.
A brand-new Amazon facility will find its home right off of Rt. 50. Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce President, Bill Chambers said this will have a rippling impact.
“Anything that brings jobs and increases the tax base of our region, the Chamber of Commerce is going to support,” said Chambers.
And that Amazon effect will be felt across the shore, according to Maryland State Senator, Marybeth Carozza.
“This is going to be a major employer; this is going to be great work,” said Carozza. “I’m looking at my constituents from Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset Counties that will have the opportunity to apply for the positions at Amazon.”
Sen. Carozza said, with a large student population between the three major colleges, students could be incentivized to study and eventually stay here for work.
“It’s another reason that we say, ‘Why don’t you stay, live, work right here in Maryland’s Eastern Shore,” said Sen. Carozza.
And for small business owners worried about competition, Chambers said there shouldn’t be any.
“This is a distribution facility, so they won’t be retailing out of there,” said Chambers. “Frankly, I would tell consumers, if you’re buying local and you’re buying from your small business owners down the street, don’t stop doing that.”
