SOMERSET CO., Md. – A Somerset County jury has convicted a man of murdering a woman in 2023.

On October 1, 2023, Maryland State Police were called to a residence on Hudson Corner Road for a reported gunshound victim. When police arrived at the scene, they surrounded the residence and saw the suspect, Morris Cotton, leave the residence naked. Cotton was taken into custody, believed to be under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Inside the residence, police found the victim, Amy Uff, lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head, and found a .22 caliber rifle in the immediate area.

Officers spoke to a witness, who reported seeing Cotton point the rifle at Uff and fire one shot at her head. The witness fled the home and called 911 from a neighbor’s phone.

Following a three day jury trial, Cotton was convicted last week of second degree murder and other related charges. Sentencing was postponed to allow for a pre-sentence investigation.

Cotton could face more than 60 years in prison.
