Man arrested for DUI, endangering the welfare of a child in Lewes
LEWES, Del. – A Maryland man was arrested on DUI and child endangerment charges following a traffic stop in Lewes last week.
At around 7:45 p.m. on March 24th, officers on patrol near Lewes Beach saw a silver Toyota driving the wrong way on Bayview Avenue without headlights on. Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as 28-year-old Miguel Garay, and smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana. Officers say Garay appeared to be under the influence, and he reportedly failed all field sobriety tests.
Police found two THC vapes inside the vehicle and also noticed that Garay’s 1-year-old child was unrestrained in the back seat, being held by a female passenger.
Garay was subsequently charged with driving under the influence of a drug, endangering the welfare of a child, driving the wrong way on a one way, failure to have a child restraint, and other traffic offenses. He was later released without bond.
